Can Botox Address Chin Dimpling?
Botox is a popular injectable treatment used to smooth away a variety of wrinkles. It is typically employed to get rid of embarrassing crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and horizontal forehead wrinkles. However, it can also address other facial wrinkles, including chin dimpling.
When small wrinkles form on the chin, it creates an issue that is often called peau d’orange chin (orange-peel chin) or golf ball chin. This can make a person look stressed or older than they really are. For a smooth chin and a more relaxed and youthful appearance, Botox injections can be quite effective.
How Do Chin Wrinkles Form?
Chin wrinkles are dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles form over time as a result of constant repeated creasing of the skin by the muscles in the face. This creasing occurs during facial movements like frowning, smiling, talking, and chewing.
The overworked muscles become stiff and contracted, and they have a harder and harder time relaxing back to their original at-rest position. This leads to dynamic wrinkles that set into static wrinkles.
How Does Botox Work to Smooth Away Chin Wrinkles?
Botox is a neuromodulator and is the branded formulation of botulinum toxin type A. When injected into the mentalis muscle, it blocks nerve signals from reaching this muscle, allowing it to relax. This in turn allows the skin in the region to be flat and smooth again.
The Botox Treatment Process
Botox must be administered by a skilled medical professional, since an injection that is even a few millimeters off can create unhelpful results. Botox must be prepared at the optimal dose and delivered precisely in order to ensure natural-looking results that do not appear “frozen.”
The Botox treatment process is very quick and typically takes no more than 15 to 20 minutes. At the start, the treatment areas are marked carefully. A topical anesthetic may be administered in order to numb the targeted regions to any discomfort. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, the injections are carefully delivered to the marked areas.
After the Treatment Session
Because this is a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment without scalpels or incisions, there is no recovery time or downtime needed after a Botox treatment session. You can jump in for a session and return to your busy life almost instantaneously. Many people get Botox during their lunch breaks.
There may be a minor degree of swelling, redness, and bruising in the treated area immediately after the session, which is normal for any injection-based treatments. These issues are only temporary and will quickly fade.
The full effects of Botox can be seen 7 to 10 days after the treatment has been performed. The results will last for around three to four months, and touch-ups are available. Maintenance treatments can be performed to ensure lasting results.
